6.2. Duplicate
The Duplicate command creates a new image which is an exact copy of the current one, with all of its layers, channels and paths. The GIMP Clipboard and the History are not affected.

Don’t mistake a duplicated image for a new view of this image. In a View → New View, all changes are passed on the original image. |
6.2.1. Activating the Command
You can access this command from the image menubar through Image → Duplicate,
or by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+D.
